This database is an alphabetical dictionary to Scottish surnames, families, literature, honors, and biographical histories. This work shows that the majority of Scottish surnames are traceable to Norman chiefs. It presents the history of distinguished and influential families from throughout Scotland since the reign of Malcolm Canmore in the 11th century. The honours of barony are also presented in this work as an account of the supremacy of a name and a family. Also included are portions on the history of Scottish titles, and articles relating to men who are notable because of their writings. This database is a great source for researchers with Scottish ancestry as such a diverse amount of information pertaining to the families and origins of Scottish society is presented in a singular work.
